The fund-raising meal last
year, with one of our patrons, Joanna Lumley, was such a success that we asked
Maureen Lipman , another of our patrons, to a lunch, again at the chairman’s
home in Finchley, in June, with seven guests. The meal was prepared and served
by the committee, with coffee served in the sunshine, on the terrace. Maureen
kept everyone amused with her lively recollections and left in good time to
appear that evening in “A Little Night Music”. She was presented with a maquette
of Spike, made by John Somerville, the sculptor of the statue, which she
appreciated, as her husband had been a sculptor, as well as a playwright. The
evening raised £590 for the Statue Fund. Maureen commented “A lovely day out in
Finchley…I could not have liked it more”
